8 Beautiful Anime Locations You Can Actually Visit
Anime
is filled with absolutely gorgeous scenery and many are based off of
real-life locations. There are some spots you can pilgrimage both as an
anime fan and as a tourist who appreciates exploring the world.
1. Ito, Shizuoka, Japan - Amanchu!
Ito
exists to the east on the Izu Peninsula of the Shizuoka Prefecture, a
spot that makes it perfect for a show about scuba diving. This beautiful
port city has clear waters and a shoreline that's varied and
photogenic. The residents seem to have a certain pride to having their
town be the setting of Amanchu! Pretend you're in the show and take a dive, but don't be surprised if you find a giant Eva fighting an Angel down there...

2. Nishinomiya, Hyougo, Japan - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
The amount of work the team behind Haruhi put
in is astounding. The show takes place in this real world setting that
is so painstakingly recreated that its side-by-side comparisons are
incredibly accurate, even down to the vehicles. The level of detail
isn't surprising; after all, it is the author's hometown.

3. Russel Hotel in Sydney, Australia - Free! Eternal Summer
Sydney is a hot tourist spot already, but thanks to Free!,
one hotel has its hands full with reservations. The Russel Hotel has
been constantly booking room 25 of their Sydney location, thanks to
people wanting to stay in the same room as the characters of the popular
show. It's so popular that the room now requires a reservation 1 year in advance. But even if you're not there for Free!, the location itself is magnificent.

4. Kobe, Hyougo, Japan - Fate/Stay Night
Kobe isn't only famous for its beef. Kobe is the real life inspiration for Fate/Stay Night's
Fuyuki city, minus the huge fire of the 4th Holy Grail War. Here, you
could visit Tohsaka's magnificent home, which has become a tourist
attraction, and you can visit Caster's base of operations, the Ryuudoji
Temple. Not only that, but you could also see Emiya Shirou's place of
residence.

5. Chichibu, Saitama, Japan - Anohana
Anohana
had some amazing scenery, and the best thing is that you can see them
in real life. The town's iconic bridge and temple are incredibly
photogenic, so make sure to take a picture when you're there! Maybe if
you look hard enough, you might find the crew's secret base. Oh wait,
that's real too. And it's a cafe.

6. Cuenca, Spain - Sora no Woto
Europe has centuries worth of stunning historical landmarks. This translates to the perfect spot for a post-war anime like Sora no Woto.
Being surrounded by cliffs, the town is absolutely breath taking. It's a
nice break from the modern settings of most anime and great for history
buffs.

7. Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan - Garden of Words
Makoto Shinkai recently made the news for Your Name, but before that, people were awed by the beauty of his Garden of Words.
The location he used is the inspirational public park called Shinjuku
Gyoen, and he recreated it near-flawlessly. If you thought this place
looked amazing in the film, you should try visiting it because you would
definitely not be disappointed!

8. Colmar, France - Howl's Moving Castle
Many
praise Studio Ghibli movies for their fantastic settings, but what not
many people know is that many of the locations exist in real life. One
of the more iconic locations is Colmar, France, featured in Howl's Moving Castle.
The movie took a few liberties with this one, having it take place in a
particularly festive version of the town, but the real place is too
different. It features gorgeous waterways you might expect of Venice,
and its neighborhoods are just as scenic. No wonder it's called the world's most beautiful town by some.
