down the list of clichés, and on paper, looks like the most generic
anime of the past 5 years. However, the series is better than the sum of
its parts, giving something that ecchi and romance fans can both enjoy.

Kurogane dreams of being a Mage-Knight, but he is the worst student at

2. The Familiar of Zero
The Familiar of Zero came
out during a time when magical school based anime was considered new
and exciting. It still holds up today, with Louise and Saito's romance
arc being well regarded for the genre.

What's it about: Louise
is an arrogant girl due to her noble upbringing. Despite her
confidence, Louise is the worst student at Tristain Academy. During a

learn why Louise is so terrible at magic.
3. Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends
Haganai looks like a typical harem - it follows an anti-social guy who magically attracts beautiful girls. Despite the setup, Haganai takes a deeper look at social expectations, the folly of nihilism, and the importance of social interaction.

Hasegawa transfers to a new school with the goal of making a good first

4. Chobits
Chobits may become
a topical series as the world seems dead set on creating virtual sex
experiences and androids. This series has for years delighted fans by
mixing tech and moe with fantastical elements delivered by the legendary
CLAMP team.

are the latest fad in computers, which are androids that look like
humans. Hideki Motosuwa finds a persocom named Chii, but he believes she

You wouldn't expect body acceptance and confidence to be the core themes of an ecchi romance, but B Gata H Kei does have them underneath the lewd jokes.

Themes
of depression, suicide, and social isolation may turn people off who
are just looking for a sexy romp. However, fans who like macabre with
their fanservice will find a story in this show that is worthwhile.

What's it about: Chihiro
has a zombie fetish. There is something about a stumbling, blood
thirsty corpse that turns him on. Rea is the daughter a school director,
and wants to escape her horrible life. The two meet in an abandoned

worst way.
7. Mayo Chiki!
Mayo Chiki! includes
a harem setup that includes a reverse trap, a fujoshi, a wrestler, and a
ghost medium. However, there is a main couple by the end of the story
that will take you on an emotional bonding ride. Bonus points for the
humor.

What's it about: Kinjirō has
an extreme fear of women thanks to all the women in his family being
wrestlers. He can withstand wrestling moves, but Kinjirō can't get over
his fear of the opposite sex. While using the restroom, he discovers
that one guy is actually a girl. In exchange for keeping her secret, she
promises to help Kinjirō get over his fear of women.
8. Yosuga no Sora
The
series breaks the twincest taboo and can get to near hentai levels of
ecchi. Throw away all semblance of shame and enjoy the ride.

What's it about: The
Kasugano twins are orphaned due to a tragic car accident. They move to
countryside to live with their grandparents in an attempt to rebuild
their lives. However, promises both old and new begin to unshackle a
dark secret between the twins.
9. And You Thought There is Never a Girl Online?
Would you like some social awkwardness and MMO memes with your ecchi?

What's it about: Hideki finally
found the courage to propose an in-game marriage to a girl in an
MMO...and is traumatized to learn that the player is actually a boy.
Hideki vows to never trust another female avatar again, but he is
starting to catch feelings from a player called Ako. To his surprise, he
learns that Ako is really a girl. The problem is that she has zero
social skills, despite wanting to be in a relationship with Hideki.
10. Mysterious Girlfriend X
If you can look past the drool thing (or maybe it's your fetish? I won't judge), you'll find that Mysterious Girlfriend X has some of the most authentic, tender romance about first love.

What's it about: Mikoto
is a transfer student, and for some bizarre reasons, decides to taste
the drool of a girl in his class. This event leads to Urabe to become
Mikoto's "mysterious girlfriend" to save him from drool withdrawals as
they both learn how to communicate in a romantic relationship.
11. Oh! My Goddess (TV)
A classic of the ecchi romance genre, there are actually two Oh! My Goddess adaptations.
A 5 episode OVA series from 1993 and a TV series (which is the entry on
this list). Either way, the animation and humor hold up well for
today's audiences.

What's it about: Humans
can have a wish granted by a goddess by calling the Goddess Help
Hotline. Keiichi accidently calls the hotline and believes that it is a
prank, so he jokingly wishes for the goddess Belldandy to live with him.
The wish is granted and their awkward relationship begins.
12. Kiss x Sis
This type of high class art is why we watch anime.
